Do you know the wireless card you use, OP? I can guide you through if you can tell me that, and the Linux distribution you use.

>>516165 not actually sure what the MacBook pros WiFi card is, I believe it's the 2013 retina 15 inch, or I can look it up in a bit.
Running an Ubuntu derivative because of the noob I am :p
Side note, since it has both Intel integrated and a Nvidia is there a tool to automatically switch when needed or do I need to switch manually?

Update I'm dumb and got it working all I had to do was enable the driver in "additional software"

The Arch Linux wiki has a great article on Macs. Even if you don’t use Arch, there’s some really useful info there.

Update: installed Nvidia drivers and prime to switch between Intel and Nvidia Nvidia works totally fine but if I switch to Intel and reboot I get a black screen, tried to do some research on this but I'm sort of clueless

If I boot Intel with nomodeset it works but with no gui scaling it's not the best experience

Are you using the open source driver? Not to rile the 'muh proprietary is bad' debacle, but there's a very big difference in the closed source and open source drivers.

I ran sudo Ubuntu-drivers auto install which installed "Nvidia driver metapackage from Nvidia-driver-415"
Running nvidia-settings shows "PRIME: is it supported? no" but I'm not sure why it says it's not supported

Gave it the classic reinstall and didn't add the graphics driver ppa, installed 390(?) And switched to Intel rebooted and it still uses Nvidia, though prime says Intel but powertops wattage disagrees

Apparently "Apple uses their own graphics switching system" and the gpu appears to be a apple specific gt 650m, is it possible that this sku just doesn't support it?

"By default, Apple’s firmware switches off the iGPU when there is eGPU or dGPU present and you’re booting into another OS than macOS." This might be the problem but I don't actually have refined installed and I need a break, I'll try it tomorrow if anyone has other ideas I'll give it a shot tomorrow

Hmm same place I found that says early 2013 mbp might not support efi 2 which might prevent the workaround for the above issue working

>>25899c here. I forgot MacBooks have that annoying issue where Prime/Bumblebee wouldn't work. I assume you meant 'rEFInd' in your post, and I think it should work fine with the 2013 MBP?

>>516527 yeah, spell check
The post I found with that info was on uefi booting windows and Optimus, apparently windows refuses to install as uefi or something and for some reason the hack to force the igpu to be enabled doesn't work like that, my Linux install appears to be uefi so I'm probably fine but I haven't had time to test it yet
