Smartphones in 2025??

| Hey g/u/rls, it's high time I get a new phone. My current one is 6+ years old, and I'm hoping this next one will last even longer! Trouble is, I've been out of the loop for so long that I don't know what's good. ( x.x)

I want something with a good display and long battery life. I often do 2-3 day trips, and not having to charge would be rad. I don't use many intense apps (I don't game at all), but I expect it to be snappy, and I'd like it to be user repairable.

| The OnePlus 13 (512GB storage/16GB RAM ver.) looks pretty good. It has more processing power than I'd ever need, a really decent display, a big battery, and some nifty features (like being usable in the water, or with gloves on). Replacing parts is as easy as heating and peeling the back cover off.

My only concern is the brand. I used to be a big OnePlus fan until Oppo bought them out and ruined them. Has OnePlus returned to their former glory? Or would this phone be a mistake?

| I'm open to other suggestions too (outside of iPhones lol)! If you had to buy a new phone this year, which one would you get? Which would you steer clear of?

| My general go-to are Google Pixels, mainly for installing custom open source roms, as I have little trust in proprietary systems.
Other than that, Nothing phones look quite interesting.

| Avoid Xiaomi. They analy restricted official(tm) bootloader unlocks to a certain quota per week, lmao.
My friend tried for a month to unlock his.

| as far as user repairability goes, you only really have the Fairphone 5 but maybe there'll be a Fairphone 6 later this year. but reviews haven't found it very snappy (about equivalent to an Android flagship from 2018). everything these days have a bright fibrant AMOLED display so a good display probably isn't hard to find.

| >>1055703 my sympathetic devices recent years are samsung fe line, and pixels but honestly they are little costy.. and little heavy too but it seems where is market going

My paranoia is avoiding chinese phones but recently i made one choice recently and i bought smart plug from TP-Link because for plug phillips i would pay 3-4x more

Also i would avoid Xperia 10 - they are hilariously overpriced, they have one of best batteries life but smoothnes is bad.. Xperia 5 and 1...

| are out of my budget so I can't tell.. but something makes me think Sony is leaving this market somehow.. but i really loved Xperia XZ Premium..

| Hope Sony Xperia lasts long enough to bring back the 5 series or their compact phones... Doubt their mark VII phones this year will make much of a splash though

| >>1055976 i don't want Xperia to survive, but fully revive somehow.. i don't even mind old "brick" Z design, compact isn't bad either but i wouldn't mind something new too.. but i feel that Xperia is not giving good specs enough..

for example, i could buy Xperia 10 IV.. or for 40-80€ cheaper S21 FE.. choice was honestly pretty much easy to avoid even over i really loved Sony.. they didn't bring under display sensor yet etc.. prices was little improve but idk..

| recently i bought S24 FE.. and i feel it was for 3/5 price of Xperia 5 V more hardware/price valued.. and even on software sided, yes clean android sounds nice, but software support of Samsung is honestly longer. Even Sony once said something like they don't want trying hard, but staying around because it's impoortant for them.. recently i bought Linkbuds S, really i don't regret choice in audio for example, but i wouldn't recommend Xperia tbh in this state :(

| it's reminding me i also loved what Sharp ro LG was making in phones market, i feel really sad that LG left and Sharp left European market

| What do you need a smartphone for g/u/rl? You're already smart yourself! No need for your phone to be smart, silly!!

| Nothing phone is good if you want a unique aesthetic.

Avoid any gen ai crud Google tries to hock now.

| >>1056036 tbh i really love function circle to search, sometimes i find myself using this instead google and answer is enough for me when i want for example where content comes from.. but yes voice assistants are gimmick for me tbh.. photos fixing feature by ai also isn't bad and using it if my shot wasn't good or removing objects.. i used it few times when i wanted take something but hide my hand or leg.. but is it worth? i don't know, for me i love these things and made me hard

| to move.. if i can be honest i understand iphone users why they don't want move somehow by this way. But always depends on what person want and price limit. But pixels xa (replace x by number) are curious devices too.. Chinese phones have honestly really awesome price/hardware ratio. Some of them have snapdragons too and is interesting where they are getting.

| made me hard too
