| freenode got taken over by some crazy person and everyone moved over to libera chat. other irc nets are still around too. as for internet forums i cant think of any that i know that are still active anymore sadly :/

Telegram is a legit alternative as is probably WhatsApp. And element/signal are close.
The real problem is user base/ network effects
