No. Religion is not about what people know. It's about what people believe. And lots of people believe any bullshit they are told to, as long they can have a decent live. And authorities tell people any kind of bullshit as long people do what they want them to do.
Allah/Islam is theologically no outstanding exception here. The only exception is that islamists benefited more from western hypocrisy than other fundamentalists in 20th/21st century.
