| You know Taiwan is legally a US protectorate? They were given to Japan in the 1800s, and were surrendered to the US as part of the San Francisco treaty. Every territory the US received in that treaty that they gave to another country is specifically listed. The only other territories that were treated the same way were places like Guam and Midway. The US hasn't publicly enforced that claim in the name of political expediency, but they have been providing weapons to the Taiwanese

Not enforcing the public claim of Taiwan is one of the biggest political mistakes the US made last century.

at any rate i agree that colonialism should not have have happened in certain areas like Africa, where all it did was increase birth rates and throw a growing civilization off its natural stability axis and evolution.

Though I would say that had Cuba requested it, the USSR would have had every right to install a military base as a defensive measure. There's a difference between place conventional troops & emplacing nuclear missiles.
