Everyone knows the USAs democracy big flaw of a two party system. Not so widely known is that there actually exist a mechanism, which still allows smaller parties and political movements to participate: Electoral Fusion https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electoral_fusion
Traditionally it was under attack by republicans, which suspect social, ecological and civil right parties and movements generally as "evil communists". (red scare)

This is why electoral fusion is only left in a few, mostly democrats dominated, states. But now certain groups inside the democrat party try to get rid of this mechanism, too. A main cause is a rich peoples taxation introduced in NY under pressure of the small "Working Families Party", that supported the democrats by electoral fusion.
