Equal rights are good, but not all. Equal acceptance by society is important too. Also there still are many conflicts with the law. There usually are toilets and sport teams for two gender. Which one are trans people allowed to use/to join? Also marriage is in most country only allowed/recognized between man and women. Being trans still has many unnecessary complications, because law is still very old and conservative.

I'd suggest to make mixed sex tournaments and teams exist exist equally beside single sexed ones and let the athletes choose where to participate.
