The focus on "Hitler" as a person is typical for the western capitalist world from conservatives to liberals for various reasons.
- The strict individualist and yet hierarchic society ideal that makes history appear as a result of acts by strong individuals.
- To distcract from political failures and faults of non-fascist/moderate pro-capitalist "bourgeois" parties.
- To obfuscate the systemic mechanisms that led to fascism/nazism.

To be fair I'd like to add that even system/capitalism critical left parties including communists, socialists or social democrats have an interest in demonizing hitler as a person to distract from their political faults and failures at the time (most important the failure to form a united front against the nazis and the blindness towards the fascistoid nature of stalinism).
| - Backwarded/rightist historical reception would be explaining the nazi rise with religion/supernatural phenomenons, morale or conspiracy theories.
- Modern/leftist receptions (including marxist ones) give more weight to rational social-economic circumstances and developments.
These two are more often found outside the liberal pro-capitalist western world, but in general within in right and left leaning movements everywhere.

One doesn't need to be smart to become popular, especially not in times where crisis follows crisis and where people are to lazy and/or exhausted to think straight. The absence of a common greater goal, the increasing complexity of reality and social-economic division and the disappointment about the discrepancy between what is/was promised and how reality looks like makes people easy prey for very stupid ideas.

There's no doubt about the multiple betrayals commited by the socdems with the murder of their ex-comrades luxemburg or liebknecht beeing the most disgusting one. However the german communists leaning into stalinism and anti-socdem campaingning was a political failure too. It's a classic: While progressives still fight and betray each other, reactionists keep their infights down until one faction feels powerful enough to get rid of the others.

In some way you may be correct. Just imagine germany still had jewish scientists during WW2 developing the first nuclear warhead in combination with their missile technology. The western world would be all german now with everyone eating pretzels with sausages and drinking beer all day long. And all of Eastasia would be ruled by Japan.
