A game about leftists, rightists and democracy

| The rules:
Name a democracy that was overthrown either by right-winged or left-winged movements, alternating with the following infos:

- period (year-year)
- country
- left/right (which current)
- foreign forces involved

The game is over if one side runs out of examples. From there you may feel free to continue without alternation.

I start:

> 1922-1925
> Italy
> right (fascism)
> none

| Post WWII
Hungary
Left (stalinism)
USSR

| 1933
germany
right (fascism/nazism)
none

| 1948
Czechoslovakia
Left (stalinism)
USSR

| Late 1900s
Chile
Right
USA

| Before the year zero
Roman republic (limited Democracy tho)
Left (Caesar, I think he was with the plebs)
None

| >Caesar
>Left wing

Y'all don't know shit

| Lets say cesars alignment remains controverial/debatable, especially if his goal was saving or destroying the republic. However, being popular with the plebs is not the same as being with them. But I like the intrododuction of ancient democracies.

| >>1116647
mapping modern concepts onto ancient rulers is bona fide retarded

| >>1116666
Which modern concepts you think were unkown to the ancient world? There are some repeating patterns in history and ancient thinkers were suprisingly well aware of it.

| >>1116666
Yep, only a real idiot would attempt to claim otherwise.

| >>1116647
I don't! Please tell!
>>1116663
Yeah, I really can't say, but I knew it would be a fun addition :)
Popper says that the 40 tyrants were right wing and well before the year zero, and Plato is defending them in his works, so there's another fun one

| What happened in post revolutionary France? I think Napoleon was right wing, but had democracy fallen before he took power? Or did he really end it?

| >>1116636
1936
Spain
Right (Fascism)
Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy.

| LRbrained

| >>1116843
Post revolutionary France was hardly a democracy. And Napoleon is an example for autocratic leaders, who started from the leftist camp but slowly showing right-wing policy with increasing power over time. However even as the military dictator and emperor he was, he also spread many progressive "left" revolutionary achievements across Europe (e.g. le "code civil" in the western parts of the backwarded/anachronistic HRE).

| 1947
poland
left (stalinism)
USSR

| 1926
poland
right (militarism/paternalism: "sanacja")
no direct involvement but positive reception by gb.

| >>1117078
the french at least bankrolled it

| >>1117117
Do you have a source? I'm asking out of interest not to mock you. Its kind of sad to feel the need to add this but this is how things are here :(

| >>1117078
Wikipedia calls them centrist though I see your argument. It also says the French tried to keep them out of the polish government in exile, but maybe they split later on. Interesting, I'd never heard of them.

| >>1117118
if it makes you feel better, in this moment right now i would not have judged your reply at all. i'm not the gurl you're replying to, however.
daily reminder 100 million deaths from communism

| >>1117184
100 million deaths from Authoritarianism*

Aka the same endgame your rotten rightoid smoothbrain voices support for every single day.

| >>1117188 authoritarianism that only came to power because of the communist system

| >>1117200
You belive communist regimes emerged prominently in peaceful, liberal, non-authoritarian and democratic paradises?
In fact many regions where communists/socialists came in power have deep rooted autocratic traditions (or were exploited colonies).
Communism contradicts authoritarianism. This is why the USSR was disolved. Most now capitalist ex-soviet repuplics haven't become less authoritarian.

| >>1117267 communism comes from the autocrats. Not the people. Every single communist leader has been a well connected or a part of a wealthy family with high education

| >>1117267
you can't call anyone smoothbrained when you come up with astoundingly retarded takes such as "communism contradicts authoritarianism" and "ex-ussr countries aren't more free now than they were when communist". you are criminally retarded and spitting on the memory of any freedom fighter who fought soviet oppression. also mao zedong was a thing.
coward can't own up to what his shit and ruinous ideology does because deep down he knows the track record is SHIT

| Stop being mean- you're both girls! Ok I think it's true communism (I use this to mean authoritarian socialism) came from centralized states without power for the common people. Where the common ppl have power, you see power sharing social democracy type things happen. If you want pure top down communism, it makes sense to support dictators so a Communist dictator gets power.

| >>1117307
>wealthy family
'wealthy' as in 'they had well paid jobs and a house' (petite bourgeoisie) or 'wealthy' as in 'they own several companies, hectars of land and at least a dozend of servants' (oligarchs)
>with high education
should make you think

You believe rightist leaders represent 'the people'?

| >>1117327
Tbh both groups have some really high achieveing members. Engels wasnt an oligarch but solidly borguiazee. There is a difference after all between multi millionaires and billionaires, and billionaires and trillionairs. And I think petty borjuazee had a lot of really great ppl come out of them. I'm actually from such a background even though I can't spell xD

| >>1117333
si c'est pour faire ça à la langue française la prochaine fois juste considère la fermeture de ta grosse bouche comme une possibilité à portée de main

| >>1117333
>high achieveing members
At some point wealth has nothing to do with personal achievement. Thanks to heritage law there are entire dynasties consisting of people who never really achieved something of value in their lives and live 100% rentier existence.

| >>1117336
Non! X)
>>1117337
Definitely true. I was referring to actual achievements such as kings who fought useful wars or doctors who discovered things.

| >>1117338
>who fought
*let fought
>useful wars
wars led by kings where 1000 timed more useful for them than for those who actually fought.
>doctors who discovered things.
People that really "discover things" of common interest usually don't become politicians or entrepreneurs. Formally they often work for them, but their achievements last longer than states or business models and they may never benefit from it economically in their lives.

| >>1117184
>daily reminder 100 million deaths from communism
I have too some daily reminders:
- your number is a maximum estimation. There are lower estimated numbers (60 million).
- neither stalinism nor maoism, which caused most of this deaths, are seen as a success by todays left. Ironincally it's mostly rightists who admire stalin, northkorea and crouch before "communist" china these days (cheap production price beats capitalists "ethics")
- 250 million deaths from capitalism.

| 1968
Peru
left (military socialism)
no support but sanctions by the west.

| Ok, I think now the game is over.
From now on there are only rightist dictatorships that overthrew democracy.

On the left there's only 5:
- bolshevik revolution
- 3 post ww2 soviet puppet regimes established as buffer
- the exceptional case of peru

On the other hand we have 16 democratic elected goverments that were overthrown by rightists:
Italy, Germany, Austria, Spain, Southafrica, Iran, Guatemala, Ghana, Kongo, Turkey, Brazil, Indonesia, Greece, Chile, Uruguay, Argentinia.
