| Better: Communism and Fascism are the *ideological* ends of a scale. Let's say communism is far-left and fascism is far-right. In between there is a centre, and countless nuances. There are two major challenges in making a proper classification:
1. In reality with billions of individuals thousands of idelogies and hundreds of nations things will always turn out to be more complex than a dualistic model.
2. Misleading Propaganda e.g. horseshit or social fascist theory

- Maos communists for example allied with centre and fascist forces against Japanese imperialists. Todays China is formally led by a "communist" party, but they built and maintain a (economical successful) hyper-capitalist system.
- Stalin on the other hand was the most reactionist communist, paranoid conspiracy theorist with antisemitic takes, who also allied with fascists from germany.
- The USA supported Cambodian "communists" to fight against Vietnamese ones.

- Todays Capitalist/Imperialist and otherwise very pro-fascist Russia leads a war to fight fascism in Ukraine.
- The german fascists called themselves "national socialists", a scheme to target the working class which was at the time pretty attracted to socialism.

- the poltical centre talks a lot "left-right equally evil" horseshit, ending up with fascists in bed.

This is why we have more complex models like the "political compass", which distinguishes between economic and societal/cultural being authoritarian/conservative to liberal/progressive.
One can be liberal in economic questions but authoritarian when it comes to culture - and vice versa.
