Capitalism is worse than slavery, because it's productivity is so high and its rulers are so powerful, they can maintain a very strong illusion of freedom for consumers and the consumed ones. And if this illusion doesn't work anymore the ruling class has enough resources to make people believe any bullshit like about other people being their enemies for having the wrong skin color, believing in the "wrong" lies (told by other capitalists), etc.
