They still exist, but they're not as big of a thing as they used to be, since the average phone usually suffices as a music box. I actually want to get one, though. My phone can't hold as much music as I'd like. But I'm also not sure if I want to spend money on one in the current climate of things.

>>961680 A fam of mine had a 6th gen iPod. I don't know if they still have it or if it still runs, but it was the coolest shit back then. 80gb capacity was unheard-of back then.

Up until a few months ago I was using a 4th or 5th gen ipod, the last all white one I think.
It was a fun vibe, but I mostly just used it because my car media player only accepts cds or apple devices and I don't want an iphone.
If I actually wanted to listen to music out and about though, I wouldn't bother with an extra device I'd just use my phone.
A DAP would be cool, but I ain't shelling out 3 digit numbers for headphones anytime soon to make it worth it.

>>962420 What model do you have, if you don't mind me asking?

>>962446 Its completly generic, like no name China brand. it says "mp3 player" on the front, but has no branding, not even a model or serial number

I loved my ipod shuffle, but their proprietary filesystem makes loading files onto it from my computer a slow and shitty process, so I gave up on it and just use spotify to play files on my phone.

I have a Fiio M7 and I have used it constantly for years. For the price of paying a subscription for high quality music or buying music directly, I save by having a 512 GB micro SD card, audiophile headphones and torrents and I can just listen and be peaceful. Fuck hundreds for a modded iPod, this works better and cheaper.

went to buy an older ipod on the shitty nextdoor app which was supposedly going for free and the lady was like "no it's £20" fuck off fuck right off i wanted my free ipod
I mean hell if it's in decent shape you could flip it online. Most models go for way more than that.

I bought one a few months ago on Amazon and I barely got a months use out of it before it started totally breaking. Highly recommend going with a name brand if you're looking into modern DAPs (Digital Audio Players)

>>962934 Agreed. For anybody looking to get a DAP, Sony and Fiio would be pretty good picks. Sony gets more expensive but has good quality players, Fiio I mentioned early of being my own choice but their main issue is the lower end models were discontinued. Fiio M6 models go for decently cheap on Ebay preowned though.

Also, if you can, go for an Android-based one. You can then just choose the app you prefer to use for listening and an interface. I used Blackplayer on an old phone that died, so when I got my M7, I immediately downloaded it there. It's nice to have the app you want.
Also, I can play DS games if I want on it, so... yeah.
Yeah, I was definitely pissed to start looking into DAPs and see Fiio recommended everywhere, then it turns out they don't sell the stuff I can afford anymore.

>>963663 TPB for mainstream stuff. Nyaa.si, Sitting on Clouds for anime/game soundtracks. DoujinStyle, Vkontakte, rutracker.org for doujin/indie stuff and J-Pop. (Latter two also host lots of Russian music.) Anything else can be googled. The world is your oyster, g/u/rl. Just look around a little.
