I hate Lo-fi. Back when I started listening to it, my life went to shit and besides it makes me all sleepy.

Sucks to be you. I listen to it at work, and I'm slipping into flow better and faster.

Any recommendations for people getting into it? It seems nice but I don't know where to begin

Trying to search for specific lo-fi artists is great. Jazzhop is a similar genre, City Girl is great, and if you are into sweet things Seycara has some nice orchestral-like covers. In love with a ghost is also great

idk, i think you can do lo-fi anything. it has to do more with the production / recording / sampling techniques than with a defined music genre. you can do lo-fi rock, lo-fi punk, lo-fi emo, lofi-folk, lo-fi hip-hop beats, lo-fi ambient techno, lo-fi black metal, lo-fi dungeon synth, lo-fi lo-fi, etc.
if you need some lo-fi dungeon synth beats to study / relax to check out maelifell 1996 demo! https://youtu.be/stxkfyWXuH0
