Why do people care about sexuality?

especially in societies where there is both a lot of homophobia and existent gay communities, it has huge effects on your life whether you're closeted or not, and who you think can safely know about this important part of your life. So coming out to people is a big deal and a risk, and then as things have advanced it's become a huge thing for people to feel comfortable to come out publicly who didn't before

I didn't mean that I don't understand why some people take coming out seriously. I was referring to people who make a really big deal out of it, as in telling everyone they know and making sure every single person they come in contact with knows that they're "x" sexuality.

Yeah. I honestly feel like corporations are ruining the normalisation of it. So many people, including people who aren't straight, get very annoyed with how forced it is and pride month is purely for money and done in a pretty disgusting way.
I have nothing against LGBT characters in media, but like you mentioned, Netflix loves to have LGBzt characters for no other reason than to have LGBT instead of letting that character just me a normal character that isn't straight.
