Refraction are calculated, and if you understand drawing, you can simplify it to correlation of angles, BUT, i have never seen one applied to a whole painting, or maybe complex translucent objects (like all glass), one by one. Not even in books like scoro.i could say i have finally, FINALLY, simplified how the lights solves, but being obedient academic loser (as you, communally refer), i need to see someone, or some book, that, also does it,

Look up the artists "sho-yan" and "naka". They both draw a lot of latex stuff, sometimes even with multiple layers. For example a transparent pink skirt over a black catsuit.
