(Setting) ...It happened in-between Midnight and Central

>The day was drawing to a close, the only trace of the July sun being the scarlet color of the sky. Small parks, like the one on the border of two districts, were a dime a dozen in Glitch City — some bigger, some smaller. The still warm from the scorching heat of the day air has only just began to mix in with the cold gusts of wind brought over from the direction of West Port.

>The park was scarcely, if at all, populated at this time of the day. The city being as it was, a rare citizen would risk staying outside far into the night, and among those who would, most would prefer the relative security of numerious bars, clubs and similar establishment to the cold, nanomachine-polluted air outside.

>And, yet, it wasn't as if the city streets were deserted, neither was the park in question. A pair of young lovebirds, courageous — or simply too stupid to see the dangers through the veils of youth and love layered over their eyes — flopped around the small fountain as if they were fishes thrown out of it. The sight of them was somewhat refreshing.

>A bit of distance away from them, another teenager leaned against the back of one of the benches scattered here and there through the park, his hands thrown behind his head as he observed the sky change color. He earned an occasional curious glance from the pair at the fountain, as likely due to his dishevelled blond hair, as it was due to his bright, if not outright toxic, yellow business suit.

>The boy — as things stood, it was just barely appropriate to call him a teenager — paid the curious glances no heed. The occasional gust of wind only further messing up his already non-existent hairdo, he seemed content with just remaining like this. Unmoving, the gaze of two icy blue eyes piercing into the reddening sky above as the city lights slowly take over the fading daylight.

> Whether by chance, luck, or encircling boredom, a girl steadily makes progress to the park. Her muted black hair is straight, twirling only at its tips — and it was don in a hasty ponytail, which grows from the left side of her. She wears an oversized jacket, covering until the knees of her short stature. The zipper encloses until her chest, teasing what is inside unconsciously. There is nothing on her legs but her pale white skin, down until her shoes are visible.

> It's hard to make an assumption of her; she is alone, carrying a phone, as others may do — however, her eyes were never focused on the device. Instead, they stare emptily at the sky, belittling the curling lips, showing a minor joy.
> Those lifeless, coal-grey eyes were held by darkened bags. It is unlikely that she cares — even if such defect mars her otherwise pristine face — as even her childlike beauty isn't taken pride of.

>The evening sky was not a uniform shade of red, instead taking on a highly contrast mix of dark, serrated patches of clouds slowly making their due way through the heavenly spheres and the illuminated clearings in-between them, taking on a myriad shades of red, orange and yellow.

>Had the blond teenager at the bench have noticed the newcomer, he didn't show it. Instead, a pitch-black, markless pack of cigarettes entered the stage through his hands and promptly one of them was lit up. Almost transparent smoke rushed up into the sky, eager to join its larger brethren covering the heaven, while the smoking teenager remained rooted to the earth.

>Laughter rang out throughout the silence surrounding the park — the place itself slowly submerging into the temporary darkness of the night before the street lights had the chance to chase it away — and the pair of lovebirds made their escape, chasing each other as some undoubtedly mischievous prank had just taken place, leaving the park mostly empty aside from the smoking teenager and the newcomer girl.

> The newcomer reacted with an ambivalent scoff at the newfound loneliness. Save for the teenager, which was long noticed by her, at the edges of her eyes. Though she knows this well, she did not dare make anymore interaction with him — lest her paranoia were to take ahold of her, as it begun to show with the crippling smile that shrunk her expression.
"Hello?"
> She puts her phone to her right ear, responding to a vibrating tune.

>The smoker blinked, startled by the sound of human voice in the surrounding silence — albeit the silence of the big city, with all the muffled sounds a regular citizen learns to filter out as years pass by — and two sharp icicles pierced the girl, judging her for all her worth. The teenager's gaze went up and down, but ultimately returned back up — not at the girl, at the sky.
>Perhaps, the boy didn't want to intrude. Or didn't care to.

> There is a nip she felt, the newcomer, as the two orbs glanced at her. It's her instincts saying words she has yet to confirm, but even conferring to that yields her only unease, knowing she is alone here — only the smoking teenager as the only other living soul.
> At least, she thinks so.
"I'm here."
> She says to her phone. She seldom react with anything else, only short nods, shakes, and hums.
"What do you want?"

>The circle of light slowly made its way from the tip of the cigarette to its tail, the smoker himself stretching out on the bench like a wild cat on a sunny day. With a subtle roar a plane was climbing into the sky, crossing through the clouds into the heavenly spheres above, dragging along lives and dreams of some hundreds souls onboard.

"Okay."
> The girl's upward gaze tries to find trace of the plane. She fails to do so, returning her back to the recluse of her own voice — her voice, and the respondent — and no one else. Her behaviour becomes erratic, as she continually paces, murmuring not to the phone; without a direction, she stumbles and flung her phone down.
"Ah— fuck!"
> She leans to find her phone, her hand outstretched.

>The tiny piece of plastic and fine metals surfed across the smooth plastibeton surface of the walkway, eventually coming to a stop as it hit one of the bench legs — pretty much straight beneath the blond teenager.
>For a split second his brows wrestled for the right to be the one raised, forming a frown as he processed the sudden outburst of sounds in his vicinity, with, eventually, the left one emerging victorious.

>The teenager pulled the cigarette out of his mouth, as he bent over to see what kind of pest made that sound.

>>689267 > The girl too, fails to notice the smoking teenager approaching her — or, to her sense, it seemed he stayed still. Knowing she had entered a personal space, she quickly grabbed her phone; her eyes momentarily gather more light, realising what attention she had collected.
"S--"
> She wanted to apologise, but stood and withdrew before she can do so. Assuming hostility from the boy, she turns around, not even appraising the state of her phone.
