New in Glitch City

| So I imagine this kind of thing gets posted a lot, but I just moved here and tonight's my first night.
Anything in particular I should know/do/NOT do/etc?

| Avoid the flooded district if you value your life and hair
- 3pig6

| Same i just moved in, i have literally no idea where should i start my new life here.

| >>577062 'Flooded District'? I'm afraid to ask.

>>577067
Not sure what advice to give another newcomer, but if nothing else I can relate.

Maybe I should look for work at one of the BTC setups, if the training's not too bad. Are they even still a thing here? I feel like I should know that. Life's kind of been a blur lately, if you know what I mean.

| Egh, I keep forgetting to add my username on the end of these.

- SitkaFox

| Actually I'm not sure if I want to use that username... Egh, there's more important things for me to worry about. Sorry for triple post.

| >>577083
My advice, get something to defend yourself with, you will need it. Also, don't mess with anyone that look like they can slice your throat, which is pretty much everybody here
-Impulse

| Don't mess with any gangs. There are more than enough would-be shadowrunners that end up ganked in alleys and rooftops and I'm quite sick of finding them and sending out nanobots out of shock.
- Unit 00

| The best advise would be to *not* put the likes of CN and Justice Wardrobe as your role models. As it will quickly end up with you dead. A good shadowrunner is the one known to their clients, and alive shadowrunner is the one *only* known to their clients.
Overall don't mess with cops, mafia, gangs and corps, and you will live a pretty calm life only occasionaly dotted with mass terrorism attacks, and even those are rarer these days.
—HAD

| Also, cults, don't mess with them. But best advice? Get the fuck out of here
-Red 9

| >>577114 Noted. My grandpa offered to give me his old lever action rifle before I left, but I didn't take it with me. Ammo problems aside, it wouldn't exactly be subtle.
Know anywhere I could get a handgun and preferably training?

>>577115 >>577118 Got it. I don't plan on bothering those people or getting involved in shadowrunning, if it means what the internet tells me it means.

>>577119 Cults are generally not fun, yeah. And I don't really have anywhere else to go.

| >>577125
I'm a weaponsmith, if you have the money, I have everything you probably want weapon and training wise. But you can probably buy guns anywhere if you look hard enough
-Impulse

| Welcome to the city we hold dear!

As others have mentioned, districts can become dangerous. Yet, even to the spike in hazard, I assure you the safer places are still viable to visit.

You may also need to fall to strange, odd jobs if you happen to be in need of money. Job vacancy rarely occurs, unless in such jobs where your life is at a waving stake.

Please don't hesitate to visit our bars either! We have a lot of them; truly, they are what tie this city close. -Uni

| Something something guns, something something know people, something something any corp is shit. Enjoy your stay.
-RaIn

| >>577130 I'll keep it in mind.

>>577132 Thanks! My new apartment's in the Neon District... from what I can tell it isn't the *most* dangerous one?
I actually don't drink alcohol, which makes my job idea kind of funny, but they have non-alcoholic stuff, right? One of my neighbors says a girl at one of the bars near here can make a really good Sunshine Cloud.

>>577138 I mean, that kind of describes more of the world than we'd like to admit, doesn't it?

| Honestly, looking at the tall buildings and tech here, it's hard to believe rural places like where I grew up still exist.

| >>577143
Where do you grow up actually
-Impulse

| >>577142
Neon bewilders, but it is a district of most opportunities. Unlike Uptown, it is not clot with alienation, but it is not rampant with death traps as with Flooded.

Bars with non-karmotrine and non-alcohol drinks do exist, as you mention. They are fantastic as I don't favour the taste of alcohol too much, sans the flavour added by other drinks. -Uni

| >>577144 I don't want to get to specific online for obvious reasons, but it's in the southeastern part of the United States. I lived on an old farm with my grandparents. The town we were near has all the neon and robots and a lot of the other stuff you find here, but it still has a real... small town feel, my grandpa calls it.

>>577145 So was this 'Flooded' place a victim of the earthquakes or something?

| >>577151
It certainly has a history, but it doesn't long to be part of the Great Earthquake. I can assure you the other residents would know more details than I do. -Uni

| Well, I need to sleep. I'll probably be back tomorrow... well, I guess it already IS tomorrow, but you know what I mean.
Thanks everyone!

| A lot quieter out this morning than last night. I don't know if that's a good thing or...?

I'm still going to look into that BTC thing. If it pans out I hope I don't get sent to a bar somewhere really dangerous. I should have looked at job opportunities here a long time ago.
In the meantime I'm going to look for 'odd jobs' like Uni suggested.

And... I don't know, I guess I'll use this thread to keep you guys updated on how I'm doing? I'm as new to this site as I am to this city.

| Gonna use this usertag for now btw
- SciFox

| Ah bollocks it seems im late on the welcome.

My apologies and welcome to GC!

-GEMINI

Can you cook?
Perhaps i can help you find a job if so
>IA

| >>577239 Haiiii to you too GEMINI!

>IA ... sort of. I've been wanting to learn for a really long time, but it's been a while since I've tried anything ambitious. I brought some old cookbooks from home, so I'll start practicing for sure.
Oh, hey, are you the guy who posted that thread about the summer gathering? Maybe I should come to that... if nothing else I'll meet people.

| Egh, didn't mean to make all of that red. Sry. And I keep forgetting my usertag. I'm not great at the internet I guess.
- SciFox

| >>577243 >>577245
Pffff this one is adorable...

Err oh its ok to be nervous, we all were new here once.

Heck if your so much as willing to learn, stop by a bar called the hazy moonlighter

Franks been needing a new cook
>IA

| >>577246 Looks like that's near here. I'll stop by, this actually might be just what I'm looking for. If the lack of weird numbers mean it's not BTC I guess I won't have to go to their training thing, so that's a plus. What hours is it open?
- SciFox

| If IA's offer stands no ground for you, there is a vacant position for a driver in the household where I reside. The only requirement — from what I am aware of — is the ability to operate a land vehicle.

Of course, you will not be the sole worker there; I act as the housemaid, therefore you are not alone should you be in need of an aid. -Uni

| >>577250
Its always open,
although the manager frank along with myself gem and another named liz run the night shift.

The day crew are unimportant
>IA

| >>577252 That's actually a tempting offer too. I've only had my license for a bit over a year but I'm a very responsible driver. I actually did a sort of freelance taxi thing for a few months back home.

>>577254 Good to know.

I'm going to think over which job to pursue. They both sound like they'd fit me really well. Thank you both so very much!

| >>577256
Any time
>IA

Yaayyy new friends!
-GEMINI

Giddy as always arent you..
>IA

| >>577256
It may be of assurance, but the offer will last indefinitely. Do not hesitate to bring your best should you be interested in furthering the offer. -Uni

| No idea who lives in the apartment below me, but their cat stares at me whenever I'm within sight of their balcony. I'm on the twelfth floor, so 'within sight' means a good chunk of the Neon District.

I'm going to go check out this Hazy Moonlighter place for lunch and a drink. If I'm even thinking about working there I should see what kind of place it is.
Still really unsure which offer here to go for... I guess I'm not great at big decisions like this.
- SciFox

| It was a cool place. Then again, any place that can make a good Sunshine Cloud is cool in my book.

>>577264 Question about the driver job offer. Where in the city is the household in question? I get the feeling most people who'd hire a driver don't live in the Neon District.
- SciFox

| >>577346
You guessed correctly. We stay in the upskirts of Uptown; a fair distance away from the centre. -Uni

| >>577350 Noted. Man, wish I'd brought my car here with me.

I think I'm leaning toward this driving job, but the commute's going to be interesting.
- SciFox

| Logging off for tonight, unless I end up unable to sleep.

Uni, I think I want to take you up on the job offer tomorrow or whenever works.
- SciFox

| >>577443
Fantastic! I will try to arrange a time for us to meet. Should it happen, I will notify you of the further details of the plan. -Uni

| >not get involved with shadowrunners

oh you sweet, sweet summer child... who do you think the jokers in this thread are?

-cyb~il

| If the jobs fail you can always join my gang!
I'm currently looking for someone to be my right hand(a.k.a. First member of the gang)
- 3pig6

| Good morning everyone.

>>577493 I mean, a quick internet search says shadowrunners are mercenaries or something, and that doesn't sound like me.

>>577625 Sorry, but gang stuff isn't anything I want to get involved in if I can help it.

| >>577662

To the normie datafaxes, yeah, they're "mercenaries." But then you look around just a hair's deep and realize that most of the chummers around here can barely shoot a semi truck with a panther assault cannon. They're more likely to trip on their own shoelaces first, if not because the corps tied it to begin with.

Shadowrunners are anyone who gets paid or benefits in some way from doing things clandestine like. Do a lot of them work it as a way of life? Sure. The gutter trash sporting fancy new augs that the Fishermen dreg out of Westport can attest to that. But what about everyone else?

The eggheads who decide they don't want to be over easy- the politicians who didn't pay off the right security. The NEET who got involved in a murder mystery.

And these are just the chummers who chose to live in the shadows. Sometimes, you don't get that luxury. Sometimes, slinking in the dark corners of the slums is the only place left that'll take you.

| >>577700

You really like hearing yourself talk, don't ya omae? -Edge

| >>577702

Pot, meet kettle.

-cyb~il

| >>577703

A simple "not really" would have sufficed.

-Edge

| >>577707

Shut up, OP's the smartest noob to post ever since that "Summer Samurai" kid.

-Rip

| >>577708 I'm 90% sure this is a compliment and I'm going to take it as one.
Who was the Summer Samurai?
- SciFox

| >>577710

Summer Samurai is a razorboy that apparently got a cult following on socmed following some exploit or other. Decided he was good enough to advertise on here, with some pretty cringy ad copy to boot.

Shortly thereafter, a Mr. Johnson took an interest in the Shiny Sammy and hired some joeboy to look into it. Sunny vanished- either geeked or hiding out. Haven't heard from him since.
