New here, what's /cyb/ supposed to be?

|

| (I guess this is OOC? Basically, /cyb/ is a roleplay board where people do free form roleplay in the Glitch City Setting from VA-11 HALL-A. The fact that you are even on this board means that you probably know VA-11 HALL-A already. Time and placement of Glitch City is held ambigious. Just make up a character that fits the universe and go roleplay.)

| (Wait is this OOC?
Cuz sometimes i see players call the board CYB in Character.
And now im confuzzled
>Morphine_blues)

| (I think players call the board "Danger/u/" in char
-Impulse)

| >>557463
(Yeah, most do but some times some chars call it /cyb/.

Mostly just anons but it was anon IC.

Either that, or pirat3 is high again.

Pirat3 is this you? Are you high again?)
>Morphine

| (yeah this is ooc. Is that not allowed here? Sorry if that's the case, I just got va11halla after years of waiting, just wanted to know what cyb was all about)

| >>557476

(Don't worry, you're perfectly fine! There's... I don't really think there's an actual guide to the board. We >>>had a guide thread, but that's long gone now.

Long and short of it is, this is the dedicated VA-11 roleplaying board. Or, at least, it started out that way. Now it's a diferent beast- It shares the setting and some of the lore, but most of /cyb/'s universe is completely original.)

| Switching off brackets for now cos this is an OOC thread...

...anyway, the big thing around here are ARGs. They're basically tabletop campaigns in the vein of Shadowrun or Cyberpunk 2027. They're all hosted on Discord servers (That's what the Contact Info thread is for) and most of the action takes place there, with some of it spilling onto the board.

You can also host an ARG of your own, but you'll need approval from Stormy first.

| Participation in ARGs isn't mandatory, of course- I'm no longer a part of any -and you can still enjoy the board without it; it'll just give context as to some of the events happening on the board, etc.

Most activity on the board is conducted in the form of in-character threads, but there's also some traditional roleplay going on in threads marked (Setting). Radio Wire threads are a blend of the two, since Radio Wire is a call-in radio show.

| I really should've opened with this but there does exist a list of rules, here's a link: https://dangeru.us/cyb/rules

We also have a wiki! Albeit... Rather an incomplete one because near as I can tell no one other than Morphine and myself has touched it in the past year or so. Maaaaaaaaybe Pirat3, but I couldn't rightly say: https://allthetropes.org/wiki/Blog:/cyb/

| You'll find that a lot of posts on in-character threads- and even OOC ones -have tags (i.e. "-Janeiro", ">>>Leeuwenhoek", "-Archarin"). These just serve to indicate who's posting- It's perfectly fine- encouraged, even -to be an anon!

That's about all I have to say right now- sorry for the massive textwall -but it should be at least most of what you need.

Have fun!

| >>557476
Mostly what >>557445 and arch said my guy.

Also sorry pirat3, legit thought this guy was you.
Unless you *are* pirat3 and really high!

>>557495
Damn man, you pointing out that you me and pirat3 are the only ones to blow off the dust really makes you notice how empty /cyb/ is atm.

I miss everyone...
>Morphine

| >>557500

It's just the three of us editing the wiki, ya doof. Parra, Hige, Stormy, Radish, Radio Wire, whoever's running the Blue Lantern, those are all still... active...

Jesus fucking christ the lot of us aren't even ten people.

Keep your chin up, though- It's the summer and VA-11's just been released on consoles so we should be getting a lot more newbies.

-Archarin

| >>557504
Yeah...it just got me reminiscing.
Heh do i count as an old girl now?

I remember when i played as N3...
The interactions with people like GG, wendy, YSS, evening, gold knuckles.

I wonder if..or rather when they will return.

Meh i need to get my head outta it bleh.
Better to just focus on the stuff i have planned this month
Gems birthday is in the 22nd.
Might open moonlighter before that
>morphine

| Heck, makes me want to stop watching from the shadows so damn much and actually do something lol

>+1 for inbound

| >>557469 >>557500

For the record, if I was high, I'd have posted something hopefully funnier lol. I've played around with the idea of creating a character which I only use when I'm stoned irl though...still may do that.

>>557495

I've been meaning to getting around to adding stuff to the Wiki, but I haven't had the chance yet. I will soon though!

>To the new g/u/rl:

Welcome to /cyb/! :D hope you have fun here friend!
-Pirat3

| >>557555
do itttttt

| >>557555
Yey new blood.
Welcom

>>557558
Dude, that idea is both brilliant and hilarious and you should Definitely do that.

But until then, any post that i dont know if its OOC or not, imma just assume its you on the tube bro.

Also sorry
>Morphine

| /cyb/ is kind of empty. Although it has an abnormally high amount of setting threads right now
-Impulse

| >>557579
Nah it was always like that.

Even back in my day *cough that was dickish of me cough*
Cyb would have no less then 8 settings on average

Actually its kinda reassuring that there are so much.
>morphine

| >>557581
It was chaotic and people were doing absurd things that should have been consequential with those threads.

I can't say I don't love them though, but I don't miss them. -xnbc

| >>557587
Yeah the new Setting rule is Definitely a change for the better.

Still, one must admit, it was fun.
Hige and parras great one madness, the SoC threads, the panty swarm, that one gurl that played a magical gril.
Heck the fact that depending on who was active you had the choice of like 3 diff bars!
Now its just the drifter...

| Like i wasnt here for it but isnt that same chaos the stuff that made the JW (and subsequent neko park trashing) and maybeee GKs magic bull that i didnt entirely agree with?
Those were good fun.

Horrible fun that is good to be gone, but fun.

Dont get me wrong though i agree with you and you are entirely correct.

Still. Good times...goooood times
>Morphine

| In regards to setting threads, while I do see their importance in certain circumstances, and the enjoyment that can be gained from them (as someone who's been freeform RPing like that since I was 12 [and yes, I was as cringy then as you'd imagine]) I actually have to say that I prefer there being far less setting threads than board threads. In all my years of roleplaying, I've never seen a style of RP similar to /cyb/'s "anonymous forum" type RP.
-Pirat3

| Personally, I think the thread style RP is what really makes this place special and unique and not just like any other RP on FanFiction.net or Amino or whatever the hell the kids are using these days. While I like setting threads, you could go literally anywhere else and find RP styled like that, while /cyb/ is the only place I've found with this type of RP (no joke, I've looked for other places like this, haven't found anything similar!)
-Pirat3

| I think the "profile" of /cyb/ evolves with the playerbase, and there will naturally be ebbs and flows of which types of threads are in the majority as both the activity of the players and the concentration of "high-priority" events, such as large turning points in player-based ARGs fluctuate. I'm just here for the ride and to both provide content for others to enjoy, and to enjoy my fair share of other people's content, regardless of the type of threads they are.
-Pirat3

| Just, in my opinion, being able to do things like, anonymously post threads and not have anybody know it's you posting, to having a large amount of players communicate without being physically together, to the various types of "stream" threads, makes /cyb/ really special and lends itself to a unique roleplaying experience. However, I understand the usage of setting threads for when player-based content needs a little more meat to it which requires character physical interaction.

| This is the reason why, when I first returned the most recent time, I was boycotting the Discords a little bit because I wanted more of what makes /cyb/ /cyb/ for me, more of the anonymous thread posting. However, I've relaxed a little bit on that, because I do recognize the need for certain players to have interactions hidden from the board, whether to keep their activities in secret or just to play out scenes which would be redundant on the board like 2-person setting threads.

| However, the charm of all of the types of RP that can occur on /cyb/ which just don't work elsewhere, as well as my own personal initiative to repopulate the board with more board content and expose more of what's going on behind the scenes to the playerbase, have lead me to still limit my Discord activity, and instead keep a lot of it on the board. I want to see /cyb/ flourish again, and I still think that outsourcing /cyb/ content to Discord should be avoided when possible.

| But again, I'm not docking anybody on their own personal RP preferences, these are all just my opinions and preferences when it comes to /cyb/. We're all both one big family and one collective stream of continuous worldbuilding from the subjective experiences of other characters which are posting about those experiences on an anonchat, which is, in a way, a mirror back to ourselves, as people who anonpost on boards such as this for fun. And that, to me, is dope as fuck. :)
-Pirat3

| Btw: sorry for rant and thread-hijacking, it kinda just happened lol.
-Pirat3

##Janitor:Stormy##

| Hi all, and welcome OP to /cyb/!

I'm a bit busy IRL right now but I just wanted to mention that the large number of setting threads is temporary and is mostly from the major event that we just wrapped up, which won't occur again for some time. Generally it's easier for newbies to roleplay in the "anonymous textboard" threads since they don't really require making a character, which was also the original "system" that was in place when /cyb/ was "born" roughly two years ago, last month.

There's going to be a bunch of epilogue threads in the form of streams and rumormongering going up this weekend to tie things up, which hopefully can be used as vectors by any curious g/u/rls who want to find a way to "get in" to /cyb/.

Aside from that, welcome once again to /cyb/, and happy anniversary, everyone. ^^

| Dude...it trippy how conversations swing.

This thread went from new gurl asking for help, to actually helping, to me reminiscing about the old days, to somehow 7 post commentary on cyb.

Like one must admit, its nuts how this kinda stuff goes.

Also happy anniversary everyone ^-^
>Morphine_blues

| >>557614 >>557615 Happy /cyb/aversary! <3
-Pirat3

| Weeeew my ques got a lotta attention.
To answer, nope. Not pitat3, sorry but I dunno who that is.
Total newb here, I got va11halla yesterday after all.
Secondly, thanks for the help and info about the thread~

| While it is often being said that the setting in /cyb/ is based on VA-11 HALL-A, I couldn't stress the words "based on" enough.

In fact, at this point I think even saying "based on" would be a stretch. It's a Hollywood kind of "based on", where the end result has little to no in common with whatever it is supposed to have roots on.

I think more correct would be to say "somewhat cyberpunk-ish urban legends setting that gets some ideas from VA-11 HALL-A".
—UKT

| Is this setting one giant universe or is the setting actually several mini universes that are separate from each other?

| The setting is one city of undefined size and proportions and occasionaly orbit above it and whatever below it. There are external powers and events, by they have no rigid structure — mostly just players making up whatever backgrounds on the fly. Which led to us getting two different Britains at some point.
(Yes, I'm still salty about that one.)

| Wait...isnt this in like 2071 to 2074 ish?

Va11 hal a devs said that it happed 7-10 ish years after ROM right?
>morphine

| >>557687
I believe it's 10 years after ROM

| >>557678
Yeah, that was my bad, sorry about that. In my defense... Wait no, I has nothing in my defense, I was a little piece of shit who just got started.

God dammit
Also lol
>morphine

| >>557906
Really?
Like i was digging around.

The second fall of the white knights is listed on the wiki as the first universe changing event and the wa11 hal a bar was here as a thread.

So i thought that /cyb/ started around the second fall

Huh, guess it is ambiguous then
Forgive me i simply enjoy figuring stuff like that out
>morphine

| Beeo Beep, Boop Boop

##Janitor:Stormy##

| >>557906 >>557993

"Roughly," the "second fall of the White Knights" was the big Civil War, which happened about two years ago IRL in late April/early May. But the roleplaying is thought to have begun not long after the end of the actual game.

But even then, the "year" is really open to debate and depending on what reality the characters come from, ever since a roleplayer sometime back unexpectedly accounted for all the inconsistencies by introducing parallel universes.

Anyway... "timey wimey stuff," lol.

| >>558015
Ahhhhh i see i see.

So some guy thought up that "world line" theory and everyone took to it because its easier then causing a shitstorm by discussing relative time.

Yeah i get it.

It is a good way to considering it explains the different non GC places like "neo fresco" as well as what the PCs consider "advanced tech"

Aside from geological and cronological problems.

Yes i see, its quite clever no?

Anyway sorry to bother and thanks for the info
>morphine

| Hey Im also new here...
How do I uh... create a new character for my self or I just put the tag in the end and see how thats goes?

##Janitor:Stormy##

| >>558093

That's literally all you have to do, lol.

The best characters ended up being people who were made on a whim and just gradually developed over the course of their tenure here. ^^

>>558018

And yep! That's basically what happened! And no problem! >>hugs

| Noice. Looking forward to have a great time here. Thanks guys.

| Should i finish VA-11 Hall-A first in order to finish stuff? i dropped it out not because i didn't like it but because i upgraded to Windows 10 LTSC and i lost all the games and i've wondered if i should skip dialogues to where i was last on or if i shoukd read them all again, kinda triggers my ocd

| >>558353

Nah, you don't need to have finished the game to understand what's happening here, so don't stress it too much.

I'd recommend skipping to where you were last at, though, in the interest of saving time. That is, unless you don't remember where you stopped or the dialogue that you're gonna skip.
