Old shows motivation

| How do I motivate myself to actually watch older shows? I keep wanting to but I'm 19 so most shit that's supposed to be good is way older than me, and I don't have a frame of reference for some of it. This is especially bad because I'm actually employed as a writer, but I've yet to see some of the best stuff out there. Help!

| Do you need a reason beyond wanting to watch something?

I just watch the stuff that interests me regardless of how new or old it is. I find a lot of old gems *through* newer shows, much of the new stuff is directly inspired by the past. And when an old gem hasn't inspired anything (good), people won't shut up about it and I eventually hear of it.

Have I missed some good stuff? For sure. But I'm not competing to be the best anime fan or anything. I'm just enjoying my time with it.

| I guess when you're in this industry, it feels like you have to always keep up with what is and isn't good. Most writers have a latent guilt about not having read most of the classics, so this is just an extension of that

| well they are true and also false. just watch/read stuff that you like and want to write about and check out the stuff they got reference from.
I generally like the old ones cause of their style, feeling and some gimmicks they tried in their show/movie/book.

| I'm 25, I know nothing about cinematography or its history, and I've watched silent films from the 1920s. No, not Charlie Chaplin movies, I'm talking real hipster shit. You're thinking too much into it. Just watch what you like, and watch more of it if it grabs your interest.

| By picking old shows that are actually good. If you can't bring yourself to watch a show it either isn't your thing or you need pretty flashing colors like jingly keys to keep your attention

| i usually get too busy to watch shows, but if i have the time i can usually finish shows. maybe a routine like watching 2 eps before could help

| Yeah if it's just a time issue thatd do it but idk for me if I wanna watch a show I just... do it.

| Here's how:
Step 1: Watch new show and find out 95% it's shit
Step 2: Find old shows that often get recommended based on your interests
Step 3A: Find out it's shit too + ugly. And yell "you people lied to me!"
Step 3B: Find out old show is actually good, watch more of them and get used to 80~90's aesthetic
