I've been on a kind of "old" media kick recently and I wanted to see if anyone here has any good recommendations. I mean some real hidden behind the VHS shelf at blockbusters in the 80's-90's vibes.

California crisis is a pretty groovy OVA if you don't mind that only half of it is finished. It's got some 80s visuals and some good city pop throughout. Go in without caring for the story and you'll be fine.

It's early 00s rather than 80s or 90s, but I always recommend Haibane Renmei to anyone who'll listen. It's admittedly not to everyone's tastes, but even so I can't believe how little it's known about.

>>796930 Hey, it has a happy ending, right? If I wanted to get people depressed, I'd recommend Texhnolyze.

>>796939 A series that propagates a white knight narrative of resolving emotional trauma is neither socially beneficial nor can be claimed to have a happy ending. Sorry, sweaty.

>>796943 I wasn't aware that people watched anime because it was "socially beneficial"!

>>796985 Is it really obscure tho? I found it on myanimelist easily by looking into animes with a deep story, and oh boy were they fucking right. 10/10.

since making this thread I've seen Gunsmith cats and Cyber City OEDO 808, next I'll probably watch the old devilman OVA (so I can finally see how bad/hilarious the dub is) but then I'll get started on the ones you've all told me about here
