Not a genre but the whole dead lover thing.
Like where the mc has lost someone they cared for dearly and it shapes who there are today.
Good examples: Black cat, kaze no stigma

Not exactly a genre, but trope-reversal is usually fun. I recently read Teppu and the way they make you root for the villain-like mc and dislike the hero-like anti is amazing.
