He left out a factor/piece of evidence for Lain being the collective unconscious, that being Lain's heavy emphasis on the importance of memory. That emphasis shows that she's not able to control the physical world, just the memories of humans, which would imply that she's only a mental construct with a nebulous physical body e.g. a collective unconscious. that's why she influenced eiri to help her rather than manifesting 1/2

also, he didn't consider the ending carefully enough. if lain needed p7 to be conscious, then how was she still conscious after she removed it from the world? does this mean that the old world still exists, & she just changed everyone's memory so they thought the world was a lot simpler than it really was? would that be using her power for good or evil? that could also be why it's Present Day, Present Time: the world with p7 still exists but we don't remember it?
